After reading up on Redis, and realizing that it can be a lot more complicated than I'd initially thought, I'm going to work on a Python script to run as a daemon using a shell init script... or maybe Upstart can help with this situation.
Do think that using Redis to store status updates is a good idea, and will pursue that once the daemon script is locked in.
Received my copy of "Don't Make Me Think" design book yesterday. Didn't think it was going to arrive before the trip to the beach this evening. Going to be an interesting trip, heh. Also, thinking the trip will be just the ticket to up the concentration on the daemon portion of the project.
So far the book is good, and even though it was written in 2000 I think most of the content, if not all, still applies to good website design.
